It appears to be full steam ahead for a longer 18 game NFL regular season. The commissioner and most of the owners are on board. Players are not so sure. They want to know how they will be compensated for the two extra games. And it’s not all about more money (although that is a huge part). They are talking about more byeweeks, larger rosters, less offseason activities, all done to help their bodies get through a grueling 18 games. With no movement on a new deal between owners and players, it does seem a little strange to be talking about expanding the season. We don’t even know if there will even be a next season.
And while the practice of paying full regular season price for preseason tickets was certainly a slap in the face to most fans, converting two of those preseason games to regular season hardly seems like the ideal way to resolve the problem. Why devalue the regular season even more by adding games?
