Cy Young

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Give it to Zach Greinke! No one deserves it more than the sensational starter from the Kansas City Royals. With the worst run support in baseball, he leads the league in ERA and is second in strikeouts. On a better team, there is no way Greinke is not a 20+ game winner this year. The Cy Young is supposed to go to the best pitcher. This year, it’s Greinke. No doubt.

Ole Miss Cant Live Up to the Hype

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Every year it seems that there are a few teams that receive a ton of preseason love from the pundits. Despite the fact that Ole Miss hasn’t really looked all that impressive this year, they had managed to turn their pre-season expectations into a #4 ranking. All that came crashing down last night as the Rebels were dominated by the Gamecocks. Already this year we’ve seen pre-season titans Oregon and Oklahoma State get exposed, and now the Rebels join their ranks. It just goes to show how hard it really is to move into the elite of the elite in college football.

Kansas Embarrasment

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Surely everyone has heard about the brawl between the football and basketball players at KU. With the ongoing disaster that is the Kansas Jayhawks sports program, one wonders if the basketball teams and football teams can recover. The football team is starting its very difficult Big 12 conference schedule and this is the kind of situation that can derail a season. The basketball team is gearing up for a possible national title run. Not to mention how this will affect recruiting. Ask yourself this. If you were a prized recruit would you want to go where fights take place between athletic departments?

Refund for Fan

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

After Oregon’s embarrassing loss and behavior to Boise State, one fan asked for his money back. Oregon grad Tony Seminary confirmed that he had emailed an invoice to head coach Chip Kelly requesting a refund for the expenses incurred on the trip. Kelly sent Seminary a check a few days later for $439. Charlie Weiss and Al Groh better hope that doesn’t become mandatory.

Freshmen Quarterbacks

Monday, September 21st, 2009

With Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley out, USC suffered a shocking loss to Washington this weekend. With Tate Forcier guiding his offense, Rich Rodriguez has got the Michigan Wolverines back into the top 25. It’s amazing to think that these two are only freshmen. When you also consider what players like Terrell Pryor, Robert Griffin and Sam Bradford were able to do recently in their first years, it’s obvious a quantum shift is happening in college football. What’s great for college football fans is the fact that these phenoms can come in right away and lead these programs. This means that we will get to watch them perform on the field for the next four years at least.

Its Sproles Time

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

If the Monday Night Football game between the Raiders and the Chargers taught us anything, it’s that LaDainian Tomlinson is out and Darren Sproles is in as the elite back in San Diego. LT has been a great player, a for sure 1st Ballot Hall of Famer. But age and injury has caught up to him. He can still be an effective change of pace and still make some big plays when you need them. But Darren Sproles is now the engine that drives that team.

Tebow Could Be Greatest College QB EVER

Monday, September 14th, 2009

If Tim Tebow goes on to win the National Championship and the Heismann Trophy this year, he will probably go down as the greatest college quarterback of all time. In recent years, Matt Leinart and Vince Young have made strong cases. And any discussion of the greatest of all time should include Tommy Frazier and Charlie Ward. But put Tebow at the top if, IF he leads the Gators to another title.

Barkley About to Get a Taste

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Matt Barkley, the wunderkind USC quarterback, is about to get his first real test in a hostile environment. There’s been a lot of attention this week to his maturity and almost supernatural grasp of the offense. But with 100,000 screaming Buckeye fans, this game on Saturday will be the time to judge whether he truly is the chosen one or not. A very strong USC ground game will help, but Barkley will be the key.

Season Starts Today

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

When the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans meet tonight, it will mark the end of the agonizing pre-season and the beginning of the regular season. The Steelers are looking to defending their crown, but have quarterback Ben Rothlesburger’s sexual assault suit hanging over them. The titans are trying to prove that their defense can be just as fearsome without Albert Haynesworth. Its going to be a hard-hitting affair tonight, a perfect opening for a spectacular season.

Sucks to be Seymor

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Imagine going from a 3 time super bowl championship team to the Raiders. That’s the situation Richard Seymor finds himself in and we can hardly blame him for refusing to report. Since Seymor is a free agent at the end of the year, our sources tell us that Al Davis is going to have to overpay big time with a new contract to get him to report and then stay on longer in Oakland. Of course since Al gave up a potential top-5 draft pick for an over 30 soon to be free agent lineman, overpaying is something he is familiar with.
