NFL Week 5 Power Rankings by ATSWinners

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Power rankings are good to have, but they only tell you where teams sit in relation to one another in the overall scheme of things. A team lower in rank could easily defeat a team above it if they matchup well with them.

Rankings – Contenders:

greenbay Champs are the champs until proven otherwise, and so far no one has. Rank near the top in 9 critical categories.

newengland Offense can not be stopped by most defenses (We believe the #3 power ranking by us can). D not giving up as many points as the yardage would indicate.

3  baltimore Best defense in the NFL right now. Ray Rice runs wild. If Flacco improves in the passing game, they will be a nightmare.

neworleans Rank near the top in 7 critical categories, but need to improve dramatically in the red zone on both sides of the ball before they can challenge for the championship.

houston The defense is playing very well, and ranking higher in most categories than their offense. When the offense is healthy, they can score with anyone.

chargers Despite injuries this team continues to play strong. Now that they finally survived September, perhaps they can get healthy enough to get deep in the playoffs.

detriot Finally a healthy Lions team showing all the talent they have piled up in the draft. Once they get Nick Farley on the Defensive line, they will be scary on both sides of the ball. Still need a signature win vs a top team though to prove their legitimacy.

pittsburg They are slipping due to age, but still professionals. If they can overcome injuries and poor O-line play they can still have a good season and get into the playoffs. However, if they can not, they will start dropping in our power rankings.

Rank – Pretenders:
dallas Defense is playing well under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. If Tony UhOh can get out of his own way, they could be a contender. Both O/D lines playing well.

10  washington Defense seems legit and is allowing the methodical offense to keep them in every game. However, they still need to play a real contender to see if they can hang.

11  eagles So much talent, but not gelling on either side of the ball. If they can start playing as a team, and coaching decisions improve they can play up to their ability.

12  tennesseetitans Defense is much better than expected and the O-line is making Hasselback look like he did when he took Seattle to the superbowl. Losing Britt is a big loss though.

13  newyorkgiantsgif Still finding ways to win even with several injuries in the starting lineup. O-line is a concern, and Eli continues to be just average.

14  nyjets A lot of talk, but not backing it up much this year.  We were never high on Sanchez and have been public about this since his days at USC. He can manage a game while defense and the running game carry him on their back. Now that the running game has disappeared, and the defense can not stop anyone in the red zone, Sanchez is getting exposed for the “average” quarterback he is.

15  atlantafalcons We call this team “2-face” because they look almost unbeatable at home, and look scared on the road. Their line play on both sides of the ball isn’t good this year.

16  tampabaybucs Still a year or two away from being a top contender. They start slow and then do what they have to in order to win the game. When these young players mature, they will challenge anyone and anywhere.

Rankings - On the Bubble:
17  oaklandraiders O-line playing much better than expected. Defensive Line big and strong. McFadden is a beat. Unfortunately their secondary has given up 100 points from long drives! Worst in the NFL.

18  buffalobills Back to reality. They have major problems on defense and do not have an elite quarterback to compensate. They may have enough adrenaline from their home crowd to pull off some impressive wins, but they will be exposed on the road and for the rest of the season.

19  chicagobears They are overrated, plain and simple. Offensive line is still pathetic, and offense is ranking low in important categories this year. Luckily their special teams and defense has kept them in games this year.

20  sanfrancisco49ers Strange and lucky win in Philadelphia. Defense plays well, but offense is very suspect.

21  bengals The youngsters on offense showing potential “Dalton, AJ Green, and Gresham” , and defense is not giving up yardage too easily. However, mistakes and youth on offense still holding this team back from being a consistently good team.

22 carolinapanthers Cam Newton as our handicapper “Brye M.” has said for 2 years is the second-coming. He looks to be right. Newton is putting up unreal numbers and vegas is loving his backdoor covers. Unfortunately all this yardage is not turning into enough points, and their defense is mediocre. Hopefully the rest of the team catches up with Newton before Defensive coordinators figure out the tape and how to slow Cam down.

Rankings -  “Suck for Luck” Sweepstakes:
23  clevelandbrowns They are not terrible, but they are not good either. Lucky for them they got the 2010 chiefs schedule and their record is better than their team actually is.

24  minnesotavikings Some good talent here, but inconsistent play on both sides of the ball are hindering them from turning these Losses into “W’s”.  Ponder may see action by Week 6.

25  arizonacardinals Hard to win games when your O-line and secondary suck. Did everyone really believe Kevin Kolb was going to cover that up?!

26  denverbroncos Von Miller is the only bright spot.

27  jaguars Sign veterans in the offseason, but throw in the towel and start a “not NFL ready” Gabbert? Horrible play from their O/D lines has this team in limbo.

28  miamidolphins Defense not living up to their potential. The team ranks near the bottom in 9 critical categories. If they stop underachieving they could win some games.

29  stlouisrams Not enough quality depth to overcome key injuries. Bradford is frustrated with all the drops. Never out of it in this division.

30  seattleseahawks Sidney Rice has given this pathetic offense a much needed dimension. Still not enough. Pete Carroll needs to take his talents back to the NCAA.

31  colts Two respectable efforts keep them out of the bottom, but they challenge KC for that spot in Week 5!

32 kansascitychiefs Their best player is the 12th man, unfortunately they will not be playing at home all season. They suffered key injuries to key players on an already less than average team. They rank low in 9 key categories and they will never have a chance to compete with the big boys with noodle arm Cassel. This team is so bad they will probably accidentally win just enough games to miss out on the “Suck-for-luck” sweepstakes!

The importance of Key Numbers in Football: Learning how to Bet

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Football is definitely the most exciting sport in America, but it’s even more exciting when your making money at the same time! We often get asked what “key numbers” mean and refer to in relation with gambling football. Knowing what the key numbers are in football is absolutely critical to being a successful gambler.

The one number oddsmakers hate to get off is 3. That tells you right there that three is the most important number. Our leading football handicapper Beau Lynn, nationally known as “Cat5″ provided research statitistics for us from the past 20 years to see how frequently games were decided by 3 points. The data showed that roughly 16 percent of NFL games finished with an exact 3-point difference. That research data also showed that this was more than double that of games finishing with exactly a 7 point difference, the next key number. Seven percent of NFL games end with a team winning by exactly 7 points.

Other key numbers are 6 (occurs six percent of the time), 10 (five percent) and 4 (five percent).

These are important numbers to know, understand, and put heavy emphasis on. Rarely will you find a football game, particularly in the NFL, end in victories of 1, 2, 5, 8, 12, 15 and 16 points. Extra point kicks in the NFL have nearly a 100 percent success rate, unlike in college.

It’s important to anticipate if and when a game may moves off a key number because this can mean the difference between a WIN or a LOSS. A strong clue is higher juice tied to one side, especially early in the week.

If the favorite opens -3 and the vig keeps climbing, there’s a possibility of the line eventually moving to 3.5. So if you like the favorite, the time to bet is right away. If you like the underdog, it would be prudent to wait in the hopes a 3.5 will come up.

Just like on sides, there are key betting numbers on over/unders. The two most important numbers in this area are 41 and 37.

Successful total players often make their own power rating and then look for a disparity of at least three points in the odds from their number.

If a 37 or 41 are involved, the disparity could be just one or two points.

Other key totals numbers are 51, 38, 44 and 45. It can be much easier to middle or side a total rather than a pointspread number because odds makers move totals faster. That’s because there is usually more wiseguy action on totals.

Knowing your key numbers will help you be more successful in the long run, and allow you to jump on the best line in your favor so you avoid losing by those hooks! It is also important to have several books so you can line shop to get the best line in your favor. Far to often we see amateur gamblers take whatever line their book has it at, and it can mean the difference between a Win or Loss. The books have enough advantage as it is, wise up and take some of that advantage back.

NCAA College Football 2011 Season – Drama already!?!?

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Another year of NCAA College Football is about here and I am very excited about what is in store. It seems as if the drama will be at an all time high this season with the NCAA cracking down with investigations, and college kids not able to stay out of their own way. The face of the Oregon vs. LSU game has certainly changed after Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns have been suspended indefinitely for a bar fight brawl. What was Jefferson’s most important year of football may have all but been ruined for kicking some poor guys face in. It never seems to amaze me the stupidity and lack of parental guidance some of these kids display year after year. Was trying to show how tough you are worth losing a season of football? I would think not.

The nice thing about this as the heavily favorite Oregon team will get pounced some more hopefully forcing the line in the favor of the LSU tigers a bit more. Our college football handicapper CAT5 has had his eye on the 2 biggest games this weekend with Boise State vs. Georgia and Oregon vs LSU.

How is Boise State going to replace their 2 top wide outs this year that combined for 48% of their passing offense last year? That should be interesting, Kellen Moore is a good qb, but not a great one. Georgia has been a bit quiet in the SEC the past few years, but they look to be primed to make some noise this year. They should give Kellen Moore a lot of grief in that backfield, and we certainly will take points and an SEC team at home on any given Saturday.

The Oregon and LSU game has a different look to it with a lot of LSU distractions, and their starting QB sidelined for stupidity. However, do not think Jarett Lee can not get the job done, he has plenty of experience. Let’s be honest, LSU has never won games because of stellar QB play. Their nasty defense, ground and pound game, and trick plays at the right time seem to make the wheels turn in Baton Rouge. With LSU getting anywhere from 1-3 points possibly before kick off at home, we will take another SEC team and the points at home.

We look to start things off hot, and Cat5 has been talking to his sources, and studying his ass off to line our pockets this season. We look forward to making our clients money and enjoying what is promised to be one of our most successful football seasons to date!

NFL Preseason 2011 Predictions

Friday, August 12th, 2011

This preseason is a little different compared to years past due to the lockout. Some traditional trends still apply, but following them blindly is never a good idea. For example, many people published predictions and placed action on games, only to backtrack and hedge the other side due to new information. Waiting for player rotations and coaches intentions may cost us a couple points on the line, but it’s much better than being stuck with an early position that no longer has value at all.

More games in the preseason land on the “3″ than in the regular season, so grabbing the hook or playing that number is even more imperative than usual. Luckily for us, bookmakers aren’t as scared to move off of 3 like they are during the season.

To kickoff the 2011 slate of games, many coaches are openly talking about their reluctance to put any of their top players on the field at all. This means team depth and backup quarterbacks become even more important for week 1.
